You may have heard the news that the August 14 Primary Elections had by far the biggest voter turnout in recent history. You may also have heard that the DFL voter turnout exceeded the GOP voter turnout. But you may not know that here in SD56 the turnout was overwhelmingly DFL. Jim Kaufmann looked at the results in the Governor races in SD56 and found that in all 13 precincts in SD56A (Hunter Cantrell for state house), the majority of the voters voted on the Democratic side of the ballot. In 10 of 11 precincts in SD56B (Alice Mann for state house) the majority of voters voted on the DFL side of the ballot.
It’s hard to predict the general elections from primary results, but as Jim says: “Here’s the bottom line: In 56A, of 5625 votes cast, 3366 (59.8%) were cast using the DFL side of the ballot. In 56B, of 6001 votes cast, 3586 (59.8%) were cast using the DFL side of the ballot. So, in SD56, about 60% of those who turned out were voting for DFL candidates. To me these numbers are heartening. Let’s keep working for Hunter and Alice! We’ve got two winnable races here; we just have to work for it.
SD56 would like to thank all the DFLers who voted in the primary, with a special thinks to precinct chairs and everyone who worked to get out the vote. Let’s make sure we all put November 6 on our calendars and vote in the general election — and encourage our friends to vote, too. History tells us, when Democrats vote, Democrats win. So let’s go win in November!
Our candidates are hitting the road to travel across the state — and we’re coming to a city or town near you! Join Chairman Ken Martin, Erin Murphy for Governor, Matt Pelikan for Attorney General, and Julia Blaha for State Auditor as they rally behind the importance of voting in the primary. Then, head over to your polling place and make your voice heard!
Even if you don’t sign up to spend some time in the booth, you should drop by and enjoy the fair with Alice or Hunter. Alice Mann will be there on Wednesday, August 8 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Hunter Cantrell will be there Saturday, August 11 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
The DFL SDs in Dakota County have a bigger, better booth at the Dakota County Fair this year with an expanded footprint and a conversation area with chairs for voters to sit and converse with our DFL Endorsed Candidates and our DFL Elected Officials.
The Fun happens August 6-12, 2018 and we would love for you to take a shift to meet and greet the voters to help them know that the DFL has their back and are the right choice on November 6 (and on August 14.) For those that haven’t worked a shift at the DCFair before (and even for those that have) we are offering a quick half hour training at our booth in the South Commercial Building at 4pm on Sunday August 5.
We really need your help to staff this bigger booth..there are 3 time slots most days: 10am-2pm, 2pm-5:30pm, and 5:30pm-9:00pm. Please consider signing up to do your part to help with turning Dakota County Blue! Come on ….you know you want to get a jump on eating food on a stick a few weeks before the MN State Fair…
August is on us already! Dakota County Fair starts this week. Hunter will be there on Saturday, August 11th, 11:00 to 12:30 – put it on the calendar now – come out to support him! Other opportunities are always available – see what you can do this week to put Hunter in St. Paul!
Pre-primary campaign finance reports went public this week and I’m proud to say that we’ve narrowed the fundraising gap between our opponent since the start of the year thanks to grassroots supporters like you!
Now we’re only 95 days away from the election and personal conversations with voters is how we’ll win this. Time is of the essence — can you join me door knocking in the next two weeks?
